How to choose the right feed for each stage of growth in poultry

Choosing the right feed for each stage of poultry growth is one of the most important factors that contribute to achieving high productivity and good health for birds. The nutritional needs of poultry vary according to their ages, so feed must be carefully selected to meet these needs.

1. Hatching stage (young chicks):

Young chicks need feeds that contain high levels of protein and energy, which contribute to promoting muscle and bone growth. Starter feeds containing 20-24% protein, as well as essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, are recommended.

2. Growth stage:

As poultry age, their protein requirements decrease slightly, and feeds should contain a balanced ratio of protein (18-20%) and energy to support their growth without fat accumulation. Carbohydrate-rich growth feeds can be used with the necessary nutritional supplements.

3. Production stage (laying hens):

At this stage, poultry have an increased need for calcium to support egg production. Therefore, it is preferable to use feeds containing a high percentage of calcium (3-4%) and a protein content of 16-18%, while providing amino acids such as methionine and lysine.

4. Fattening stage (broiler):

At this stage, the goal is to gain weight quickly while maintaining good health. Feeds need to be high in energy and protein (20-22%), with a low fiber content to increase the feed conversion rate.

Additional tips:

Ensure the quality of feed and its freedom from mycotoxins.
Provide clean water next to the feed.
Adjust the feed composition based on environmental conditions and bird requirements.

Choosing the right feed for each stage ensures improved productivity and reduced costs, which benefits breeders.
